Fears & Phobias

We have all experienced feeling fearful and this can be a natural, healthy and helpful response which we all have to danger: fear can help us get away from threatening situations.

It is when this fear becomes more intense, exaggerated with an unrealistic sense of danger about a situation or object that it becomes a phobia.

A person with a phobia has an overwhelming and debilitating fear of a place, situation, feeling, animal or an object.

Having a phobia not only limits your life, it can also have a negative impact on your confidence and your own competence.

For some people having a phobia can lead to severe anxiety and panic attacks.

People can experience several symptoms related to their phobia. These may be mild or extremely intense such as:

  • Dizziness/Light Headedness

  • Fast heartbeat and/or palpitations

  • Nausea

  • Sweating

  • Shaking

  • Shortness of breath

  • An upset stomach

For some people these symptoms occur when coming face to face with their phobia, for others just thinking about the phobia will bring the symptoms on.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help?

Hypnotherapy is highly effective for the treatment of fears and phobias; many phobias exist in our subconscious and are learned responses. Hypnotherapy can help you to learn a new response to replace the phobic one.

It is not possible to be anxious and relaxed at the same time, so during a hypnotherapy session I will teach you effective relaxation and anti-anxiety techniques which will help you when you encounter your phobic trigger.  I will also teach you self-hypnosis which will help build your self confidence and give you a greater sense of control.

I use a method called systematic desensitisation in which under hypnosis you will learn to relax whilst imagining the situations which cause you to have the irrational fear. By repeatedly imagining these scenarios whilst I am teaching you to relax you will develop a new automatic response which is one of calm.

Using all of these methods My Mind and Me will help you not only take back control, but you will achieve the results that you desire on a more permanent basis.
